Achayans

The solo writing attempts of screenwriter Sethu were largely dull and the worst in that list was Cousins which was directed by Vysakh. The new Kannan Thamarakkulam film Achayans written by Sethu in a way repeats the same mistakes of Cousins and is almost as torturous as that movie was. With a screenplay trying squeeze in pointless subplots to lengthen the time, Achayans is a test of patience.

Tony, Roy and Abhi are brothers and Rafi is their friend. Tony is a spoiled brat and his wedding with his loved one goes through some issues due to the irresponsible nature of Tony. So the family decides to send the 4 member gang to a retreat center. What all things happen in that journey is what Achayans talking about.

VIDEO REVIEW

It’s the sheer pointlessness of the screenplay that annoys you. A huge part of the screenplay is simply wasted to add misogynistic jokes, irrelevant songs and certain sequences just to make the movie look like a celebration. It is only towards the interval point the story manages to attain some seriousness. Post interval the film is an investigation thriller. But the old school writing and TV serial kind of making makes that portion a pain in the arse.

There is no real importance for the character of Jayaram when you look at the final picture. He is there as a mixture of what we saw in Sathya and his typical sentimental comical shade. Unni Mukundan is always in that drunken mode and he fails miserably in emotional sequences. Adil and Sanju don’t really have much to do here rather than being in background.  Similar is the case of Sshivada. Amala Paul plays the important character of an eccentric girl and because of sloppy outdated writing her performance looked really bad. Anu Sithara was kind of okay. A quality actor like Prakash Raj is wasted in a police officer character who just walks around after saying one or two lines. The only actor who seemed to have performed in Achayans is Siddique and he appears in only 2 small scenes.

Kannan Thamarakkulam who earlier made Thinkal Muthal Velli Vare and Aadupuliyattam has no plans to change his style. The treatment of Achayans is unbearably mediocre. There are certain things a director can do to make a scene look better. The hero gets an introduction like Tamil or Telugu heroes. And the film pointlessly wanders around Achayans. When it enters the second half the melodrama is so damn irritating. Prakash Raj’s character is creating unnecessary buildup and to increase the torture we get to hear Gopi Sundar’s Bhajan like BGM. Cinematography was really bad. You can clearly see framing errors inside various shots inside a single scene. Cuts were bizarre. BGM becomes annoying at some areas and the songs were underwhelming.

Achayans will work for you if you are someone who watches almost all the tacky daily soaps we get to see in our channels. From making to writing to visualizing, nothing has gone really well for Achayans.

Rating: 1.5/5

  1. Achayans – A PURE THALLIPOLI AND NEGATIVE MOVIE.
This movie is not even worth watching by hiring a CD for Rs. 20/-.
This movie can neither be watched with family nor with friends.
The highlight of the movie is booze, double meaning dialogues and vulgarity. All these are promoted in full scale.
An actor like Jayaram should refrain from acting and promoting such movies.
I fail to comprehend why people are making such movies w/o any thing positive
