It is the state committee meeting of emotionless actors and certain makers who are stuck in the past. John Paul Vaathil Thurakkunnu from director Chandrahasan is a great example of shoddy film making. There isn’t a single scene that makes an impression on the viewer and by the time you finish it you will definitely want to abuse someone to take away the anger.
It is a bit difficult to explain the plot because they haven’t really set something that can be called as a plot. Anyway let me try once. John Paul is this sacred heart who is sincere, humble, loyal and almost all the good thing you wish to have in your hero. As part of a job interview John meets Mr. Manoj Mathan who has some issues with John’s father Paul. The revenge seeking Mathan makes things a bit difficult for John and the movie focuses on the events that happen after this.
Well what I have written is an attempt to brief you about the story. The movie has gone beyond that in the possible worst manner. Artificiality is abundant in every frame and Chandrahasan tries hard to be a tough competitor for Santhosh Pandit. The most annoying thing about the film was the acting of the Sudip Joshy who played the role of Manoj Mathan. Primarily the writing was substandard and the forced acting of Sudip easily irritates you. Filled with all the clichés of the 80’s movies that has these estates and land lords, John Paul Vaathil Thurakkunnu offers you a chance to watch an LP school drama.
Deepak Parambol disappoints as John Paul. The character is supposed to be quite charming and selfless but his performance was poor and health less. Don’t want to murder Sudip again for his performance. Darshana Rajendran and Shruthi Menon were also pathetic. Rajesh Hebbar’s character speaks English as if somebody is monitoring him to check whether he is speaking any Malayalam word. Actors like Madhu and P Balachandran are wasted.
Direction is outdated to the core. Screenplay doesn’t have any finish or sincerity to present things sensibly. God knows why certain dramas were included in the story. All the songs in the movie are placed awkwardly and the mixing of them was alarmingly pathetic. Ordinary cinematography and sloppy effects. Most of the “comedy” dialogues are taken from the forwarded whatsapp messages.
Overall John Paul Vaathil Thurakkunnu is a killer like Pavanayi. It has all the tools to kill you but you will survive and Pavanayi will die in front of you. The rating is 1/5.
