Naku Penta Naku Taka is an uneven mix of variety and cliche that ultimately falls in to the below average category. The technical side of the movie lacks perfection and the failure of the director to conceive the drama in Jeyamohan’s writing in a sensible manner makes Naku Penta Naku Taka a not so special film.
The movie focuses on the life of the newly wedded couple Vinay and Shubha. Shubha was in search of an American residing husband and after she landed at Nairobi she got to know that her husband fooled her family by saying that he works in America where in reality he was working in Africa for an American based company. The life of this couple in the Dark Continent with a lot of unexpected problems and how they managed to survive it is what Naku Penta Naku Taka focusing on.
Interestingly both escape from Uganda and Naku Penta Naku Taka describes Africa as a beautiful place and then tells a story where the main protagonists just want to get the hell out of there. As I said, it’s an uneven mix. The American lover female lead in the beginning was an absolute amateurish piece of writing. But the way they built that chemistry between the characters was nice. After that the script starts digging its conflict zone and frankly speaking I couldn’t feel any sort of nail biting tension. The canvas of the movie was quite small which made things look less agonizing. The narrative is unpredictable but the presentation of the diversions was quite dull.
Indrajith was comfortable doing the humour and drama assigned to his character. Bhama succeeded only in those portions were her character was angry. Her dialog delivery in the beginning portion (story narration) was poor. Anton Kulasingam played by Murali Gopi was a memorable character. Shankar, Sunil Sukhada, Anusree and Sudheer Karamana did their small roles nicely.
The direction wasn’t that great. A real feel should have been there in the treatment but the atmosphere was over dramatic. Some twists in Jeyamohan’s screenplay looked lame. Dialogues could have been better. Cinematography and edits are just about okay. The music was nice.
Overall Naku Penta Naku Taka doesn’t really succeed with its escape plan theme. My rating is 2/5 for this movie. Naku Na Penta Naku need a better Taka.
