Remember Siva’s story in Bangalore Days? Imagine the worst possible interpretation of that story in to a full length feature film with all the clichés one can imagine and Team 5 will be that movie. Don’t think that it’s a good movie because of the Bangalore Days reference I made, Team 5 belongs to the category of mediocre films.
Akhil is this bike stunter who is an engineering drop out (quite obvious). He secretly does the entire bike stunting stuff as his mother and uncle won’t permit him. The film is about one particular incident which forces Akhil to quit bike stunting. What is it and how eventually Akhil overcomes it is what Team 5 talking about.
The movie’s length was only 100 minutes and yet I felt like sitting in the dark (alone) for almost 3 hours. The irony is that the whole story sounds like a synopsis of a big story. Writer director Suresh Govind seems to be in a hurry to narrate the cheesiest inspirational story filled with pointless bike stunts that gives you a headache. You can see whose going to die and what is going to happen from miles away. And the reason why Akhil leaves everyone gets the lamest of presentation.
Sreesanth fails miserably as an actor. The director seems to know this fact and hides his face in almost all shots. There is a scene featuring him, Pearle Maaney and Nikki Galrani and all you can see is Sreesanth’s back. I laughed when I saw his emotional outburst in front of his mother in the climax. Nikki Galrani is the must have pretty face whose character falls in divine love with hero after the first meeting itself. Pearle Maaney’s affectionate sister character is a bit too annoying. I really don’t know the need of someone like Makarand Deshpande in a film like this.
Suresh Govind’s making and writing are extremely amateurish. Team 5 is an assembled formula movie that takes bits from everywhere. The tackiness in characterization and the lack of planning in execution is evident in every frame. The whole production quality of the film is bizarre. Cinematography and edits are really shoddy. Gopi Sundar’s music is pretty underwhelming and the Aazhcha song has probably the worst lyrics of the year.
Team 5 is almost like a movie that has been made to utilize the fame of Sreesanth. With really nothing in the movie having a mentionable quality, the only thing that’s worth applauding is the decision of the makers to wrap it in 100 minutes.
