MLA Mani Pathaam Classum Gusthiyum

After watching “MLA Mani Pathaam Classum Gusthiyum” you will surely wonder when did the director last saw a good movie. Such an outdated political drama with same old flavors of blood filled action movies. At times we will feel where is it going.

Well the story is about Manikandan alias MLA Mani (played by Kalabhavan Mani) a Gunda of political kings. Through his various sad and hard experiences in life he decides to live for people. The problem with MLA Mani is that the narrative suites a Tamil movie that also 5 or 10 years back. Even tamil audience will find this movie difficult to digest.

Larger than life heroism needs large canvas to convince audience. With poor technical backup and compromised casting you can not make a movie that will ignite fire in the minds of the audience. Some of the incidents in the story at times tests our normal logic. Many unwanted characters to increase our sympathy towards the hero and to increase the large hearted heroism.

Performance wise Mani, Vijayaraghavan, Shammi Thilakan, Babu Namboothiri, Lena etc. did what was expected from them. Siddiq’s character had shades of the character portrayed by Sreehari in Vijay’s “Vettaikkaran”. In fact the entire second half has many similarities to Vettaikkaran like Mani’s change over Harisree Asokan’s death etc.
The basic story and the music is by Kalabhavan Mani. Apart from the “Ambalakula kadavil..” song he failed in the rest. That song is a nice typical Mani style one. Direction is outdated. Screenplay of TA Shahid was too dragging in the second half. Shahid still follows his trademark stretched out abusive dialogs.

Overall “MLA Mani pathaam Classum Gusthiyum” is an avoidable movie. My rating 1.5/5.
Makers, audience is in 2012, where are you guys?
