One more movie that is packed for entertainment of the audience who are in a festive mood; that’s what I can say about Ordinary fame director Sugeeth’s new venture titled 3 dots. Following similar structure of his first film, Sugeeth has recreated the feel again in a slightly different backdrop. With an entertaining first half and predictable and less charming second half, 3 Dots is a onetime watchable average cinema.
The movie revolves around three characters Louis, Vishnu and Pappan who were convicted by the judiciary for various reasons. During their imprisonment they are influenced by a counselor Dr. Isaac Samuel. After their release from jail they decide to start a new life in a self-made manner. On a particular occasion, Dr Isaac Samuel needs their help for one of his personal matters. To prove their loyalty, the 3 Dots take the assignment. The troubles they had to face and how they manage to escape from all these are the soul of this so called entertainer.
As I said, they have used the same platform of Ordinary with some shades of Romans for this film. The movie goes smoothly in the first half with typical flavors of a usual Malayalam entertainer. With Biju Menon once again stealing the show with his rough expressions and small counter dialogs the entertainment value is neatly maintained in the first half. But when it comes to the second half, the movie falls in the clutches of clichés, unconvincing melodramas and not so shining smartness. The suspense thread they used for the movie is an outdated one and the movie fails to impress us in a creative side.
In the making, Sugeeth has followed his style of conventional movie making. Much similar to Ordinary, he handles humor smartly but fails in executing the emotional and thrilling phases. Script and dialogs are by Rajesh Raghavan who previously worked on Jayasurya starrer Vaadhyar. Well the script is a masala number with almost all flavors. Script moves smoothly in the first half and when it comes to the second half it loses the grip. Like Ordinary, here also many characters are missing in the second half. Camera of Faizal Ali yet again captures some colorful frames. At many occasions the edits and the BGM were not in sync. Art is good and the music of Vidyasagar is enjoyable.
On screen, Prathap Pothan is convincing as Pappan. The hit combo Kunchako Boban and Biju Menon repeats themselves when it comes to the nature of the characters. Louis is predictably rough and Vishnu is cute and crooked. Well I don’t want to take away the credit from them; the entire movie is enjoyable because of their performance and on screen chemistry. Narain is good as the dual shaded Dr Isaac. Janani Iyer and Anjana Menon are there just to add a romantic track.
Overall, 3 Dots is an average film that can be watched once in this festive season. If you are someone who considers Ordinary as an excellent one, this movie won’t disappoint you. I am giving 2.5/5 for this festival entertainer. Watch, laugh, howl, smile and forget.
