Editing at times can be used to chop off unnecessary additions a script writer adds in his creation. If the director had that mercy to admit that most of the stuff he wrote to create fun wasn’t working and removed it from the final edit, the movie Viswasam Athalle Ellam would have had a compact feel and you would have said that “Thank God! the movie was small”. But what to do? The movie has almost two hours 45 minutes runtime and that is too much of time spent on a wafer thin idea.
Jomon is the aimless son of inspector Lukos. He doesn’t know the value of money and isn’t that serious about a secure future. The movie mainly deals with the contract work he takes to install a windmill in Kochi and the problems he had to face. How circumstances put him in deeper troubles and how he emerges as a winner is what Viswasam Athalle Ellam all about.
We have seen a lot of movies starring Jayaram which had this basic idea of hero in a bankrupt situation and getting out of the mess in the climax. The main difference from those films and Viswasam Athalle Ellam is that here, we have an irresponsible central protagonist. Too many unnecessary subplots have been added to every incident in the movie which actually makes it too big. The character gimmicks involving Manoj K Jayan, too much of explanation about the Kunnamkulam brothers and some Priyadarshan style coincidence stuff have been integrated to make the developments look charmless. A few dialogues that had a good dosage of humor were there to save the movie from being a total disaster. After a point the movie just goes on and on without much relevant reasons. The whole Aadu Thoma thing looked immature and irrelevant.
Shine Tom Chako is okay in his performance as Jo. Ansiba hasn’t improved much (too dramatic). Archana Jayakrishnan has this pretty face which wasn’t that expressive. Kalabhavan Shajon goes back to his excessive comical style. Manoj K Jayan looked terrible in the Rishiraj Singh spoof avatar. Shankar, Niyas, Sunil Sughada, Vijayaraghavan, Bhaghath and the remaining cast were all right in the characters assigned to them.
Jayaraaj Vijay’s making doesn’t do anything significant to improve the overwritten screenplay. The screenplay writer should have followed the same advice Ansiba’s character gave to our hero (to do some good research). Dialogues are okay. Edits weren’t good. The music and background score from Gopi Sundar was disappointing.
Viswasam Athalle Ellam is an untidy script that fails to convey a simple thought. Rating for this sloppy comedy is 1.5/5. With the help of fast forward option, it will be a passable half an hour movie in DVD.
