Some of us in our childhood had this day dream of terrorists attacking our school and we heroically save everyone and kill the terrorists. Over the time as we get matured we sort of sensed the idiotic nature of the whole scenario. But looks like director Kalavoor Ravikumar still hasn’t got the fact that it is an absolutely bizarre thought and he decided to use such an idea and make a film called Kuttikalundu Sookshikkuka. No, it is not a story where a school kid saves the school from terrorists, but it is almost there in a different way. With his signature sentimental torture evident in every frame, this wannabe patriotic drama titled Kuttikalundu Sookshikkuka has actually ended up becoming a hilarious film.
Two kids Niranjan and Neeraj are the central protagonists of the movie. Their father, who was a commando, lost his life in the Mumbai terror attack while trying to save civilians. They are in grief and during that time they happened to see that terrorist who was responsible for all this crime. Normal people would inform the police. But these smart boys decided to take this terrorist to their home and keep him in their store room and punish him.
Does any feels like saying, “Okay, What?!”. Well almost everyone in the theater after 20-25 minutes in to the movie was like that, in fact we were wondering WTF was happening (sorry just can’t resist my emotion). A terrorist who couldn’t be traced by India’s top most agencies after a terror attack walks in front of the kids like a casual visitor. These kids decided take him down by spraying chloroform. And they put him inside a sack and they managed to take him with them inside a bus with many other people and nothing suspicious happens. Dude! Even those new gen writers who are accused of taking drugs for getting ideas can’t come up with such surreal imagination. After all these incidents, the movie becomes very serious about its plot and we as an audience are in for a festival of ROFL.
Kalavoor Ravikumar’s idea of patriotism is damn shallow and unfortunately we get to know that through a 2 hour long film. The director who wrote films like Nammal, Father’s Day etc. always had this cheesiest representation of family bonding. Here also there is no shortage in all those cheesy melodramas. The kids in the movie are shouting at the terrorist saying all those patriotic things which we saw in Vinayan’s War and Love. The minimal audience inside the theater was laughing at all this and thanks to the movie, I made new friends (Friends are the ones who are with you in difficult time’s right?). The background score is too aggressive and excessive. Songs weren’t that catchy.
Sidharth Ajith and Sanoop Santhosh are portraying the roles of the main leads of the film and I would say they have delivered a performance their director wanted from them. Anoop Menon in his cameo role was okay as the intention was to create a cool dad. Bhavana fumbles slightly with the melodrama. I don’t know what prompted Anu Mol to choose this movie. She usually chooses films with some substance. Makarand Deshpande is the funniest deadliest terrorist you may ever see. And his partners are lamer than the ones we see in Acha Din (especially that guy who spoke Malayalam during interrogation).
Kuttikalundu Sookshikkuka is a movie you should watch with your best friends. It will give you an unforgettable experience as you will constantly find reasons to LOL. This movie is competing with films like War and Love and Acha Din in being patriotic – that’s my warning, now you decide.
