Abhiyude Kadha Anuvinteyum

For an argument, the makers of the movie Abhiyude Kadha Anuvinteyum (Abhiyum Anuvum) can say that the film sort of addresses the troubles of living in a patriarchal society. But ultimately it’s a movie and needs something fresh or interesting to hold its audience. The bilingual directed by BR Vijayalakshmi is a terribly made melodrama that just irritates you as a viewer.

Abhi works in a corporate company and he is the son of a financially sound couple. He falls in love with an internet sensation named Anu and guess what? In no time they are friends and before you know it, they are married and she is now pregnant. The movie’s central conflict gets revealed at that point which causes a moral/ ethical conflict in between the two. How that issue affects the relationship is what the movie dealing with.

The most annoying part of this melodrama is the first half. Our characters are totally inside an insensible world of millennials and the writing is so amateurish that every moment in it feels like a WTF moment. There is no depth and sense in what Abhi and Anu does and if that was the director’s way of showing the attitude of the modern generation towards relationships, then she has a really peripheral idea about it. And to make it even worse, they have this old school idea of making the heroine this epitome of goodness and kindness.

Poor Tovino Thomas is trying hard to make the character look organic mainly through the way he reacts and renders certain dialogues. But post interval the script shows no mercy towards him and he fumbles. Pia Bajpai gives a tough competition to Sania Iyyappan in being annoying in an attempt to be cheerful and positive. A good share of the blame goes to actor writer Uday Mahesh for that. Suhasini, Rohini, Prabhu etc are there in the movie in small roles.

B R Vijayalakshmi, Asia’s first woman cinematographer, is the director of this movie. The making of the movie from Vijayalakshmi is largely filled with cringe worthy melodrama. Have you ever wondered while watching certain movies with millennial backdrop and feel that it’s really unreal and makes a fake image about the lifestyle? Well Abhiyude Kadha Anuvinteyum is so darn fake in that sense and might make you hit the roof. The ordinary writing of Uday Mahesh becomes clumsy in the second half when the ethical problem gets treated in a very daily soap kind of way. You just become bored of the predictable back and forth drama. In one scene a character sends a selfie and the screenshot of the visual we saw gets sent to the other person as selfie(How lame is that?). And I don’t think the makers even know how Facebook works. Cinematography is disappointing and the music is dull.

Abhiyude Kadha Anuvinteyum is a cheesy, sloppy, melodramatic love story that will feel like a passable one for the fans of Mohit Suri films (Aashiqui 2, half girlfriend etc). For others who like some sense in film making, this will be a tedious torture.
