Ivan Megharoopan

Director P Balachandran’s “Ivan Megharoopan” is a fiction loosely based on the real life of poet Kunji Raman Nair. The movie concentrates on the inner conflicts of the poet who is always in search of inspiration. His helplessness is rarely understood by anyone. In fact he himself regrets about his character that forgets the emotions of others and at times uses them for his personal advantage.

It will be difficult for the audience to communicate with the cinema as it is about the weird nature of a human being. To justify him is difficult, but at the same time the innocence in him makes us not to curse him. Even though he steps into relationships with women for his instantaneous pleasure or for the inspiration factor, that nature is justified in the script with another selfless version of the character who always seeks blessing from children, the pure souls.

He has a bit of inferiority complex, he is not willing for taking mature responsibilities and he is not even strong enough to add the sincerity factor in a relationship. For all the serious mistakes he made in life, the blame has been given to his forgetful nature. At the end, he is tortured by events that makes him wonder why people step into do wrong things even after knowing that they should not do it.

On screen, Prakash Bare has delivered a superb performance as the innocently straight forward poet. The changes in the character were quite naturally portrayed by him. Jayapriya, Padmapriya and the rest of the female cast has delivered an impressive performance. Remya Nambeesan, Shwetha Menon and Jagathy Sreekumar fits into their small roles.

Technically, the direction is good. Director has tried to keep away the offbeat feel of the movie. The script isn’t that dragging. With touches of practical humor, the first half is definitely enjoyable. When it comes to the second half, the movie tries to showcase the conflict in his mind. But too much concentration on his physical interests disturbs the script in achieving that task. Editing is impressive. Praveena’s sound really suits Padmapriya. Rajeev Ravi disappoints in the camera section. Sharreth has given a juicy music to the fruitful lyrics.

Overall, Ivan Megharoopan is an enjoyable biopic fiction. The complexity of the character could have been captured in a better way to make it easy for the common audience to communicate with. I am giving 3/5 for this Prakash Bare starrer. Strictly my personal view.
