The Hunger Games Catching Fire

the-hunger-games-catching-fireThe deadly game for existence is back and the second installment of The Hunger games: Catching Fire is an impressive sequel. The story transforms in to that next level of revolution where the game and gamers are more mature and the hazards and mind games are more complex.

The story now goes to those developments outside the game after the conclusion of the 74th annual hunger games. The climax of the event have created some annoyance to the authorities and the president Snow is trying to suppress the revolution that is happening in the other districts of Panem. The tactics of the president to eliminate the possible threat and how our central protagonist Katniss Everdeen escapes from this is what the movie trying to narrate.

With that relatively lengthy first part where we were familiarized to the situations in Panam and also to this blood shed game, it is not that difficult to adjust to the fantasy and intensity of Catching Fire. They successfully establishes the brutality of the Capitol and the helplessness of the tributes. The crooked plans of the authorities are less cheesy and that makes the game more difficult for the tributes and more intriguing to the viewers. The predictability in some events that happens during the course of the game makes the narrative slightly dull here and there, but still they have managed to keep it in tandem by adding newer varieties of the same old hazards in the jungle. The basic beauty of this fiction is its plot which we can relate to certain real life scenarios in some level and Catching Fire segment’s plot elements have those similarities which kind of keeps it in a real zone when we go to the basic idea.

In the making, I must say I liked the way Gary Ross  made the first part. His frames showed more agony which I believe made this unreal world more appealing. Francis Lawrence haven’t tried those interesting making styles which we saw in the first part. The script, much similar to the first part takes enough time to establish all the happenings and that really helps the viewer to get closer to the emotions of the characters. Good cinematography and impressive visual effects are there to enhance the technical beauty.

Jennifer Lawrence is really fitting as Katniss and the transformation of the character was really smooth. Josh Hutcherson as Peeta was also comfortable in his role. Woody Harrelson’s Haymitch becomes a bit serious in this sequel. Rest of the cast was also perfect for the characters they portrayed.

Overall, The Hunger Games Catching Fire has everything to engage you with its thrills and emotions. Some uniqueness in direction which was quite evident in the first part is missing here. My rating is 3.5/5 for the second installment. Waiting for the next part- Tik Tok!.
