Sidharth Bharathan’s first directorial venture NIDRA is a finely crafted movie. A movie that will haunt us for some time. Eventhough its a remake, the film is not an exact copy of the older one. The style has been changed to suit the modern way of film making. With almost all frames in the movie having a stunning visual beauty NIDRA will keep the audience glued to the screen.
The film is basically a love story that questions the attitude of the society towards people who has metal break downs due to circumstances. The story is about Raju and Aswathy and their married life. Raju is a frustrated young man who earlier had mental break down due to his mothers death and he loves to live a very private life away from the high class social society. Aswathy is like his best friend with whom he shares every single feeling. The film shows how Aswathy and Raju faces the society.
Sidharth has portrayed the role of the loner Raju very convincingly. Reema’s performance is top notch. Sidharth has given his long time friend Jishnu a suitable and impressive role as the elder brother of Raju, Viswan. He also delivered a good on screen performance. KPSC Lalitha, Sarayu, Thalaivasal Vijay and the rest of the cast delivered a good performance.
The plus points mainly about the movie is in the technical side. Impressive direction style of Sidharth Bharathan. Conveying these type of emotions to the viewers is a tough task, but he has managed to do it successfully. The dialogs were also good. Never gone too filmy. The dialog delivery style also needs a special mention. It had a natural flow. For me the real star of the movie is the cinematographer Sameer Tahir. Eye candy shots. Songs were picturized gorgeously, Raju’s mental break down scenes and a touching climax had a cinematographers signature. BGM was also very impressive.
If cinema means something more than mere commercial entertainment to you, please go and watch this movie. It has substance, technical backup and some impressive performances.
I am giving 4/5 for Sidharth Bharathan’s NIDRA. You surely wont regret watching this worthy remake.
