Tanu Weds Manu Returns

Very rarely we get to see sequels that are better than the first. I personally felt Tanu Weds Manu as a just about okay film and this time in the form of Tanu Weds Manu Returns, Anand L Rai has come up with a sequel that apparently looks much more entertaining than the first part. With the lady perfectionist Kangana Ranaut giving her everything to make the double role work for us, this hilarious rom-com offers one good laugh for its viewers.

The movie opens to the present day where our title protagonists, Tanu and Manu are on the verge of divorce. The problems between them had reached that level of incompatibility that Tanu even gets Manu in to a mental hospital. Coming to the main focus and conflict, the couple comes back to India from London and in the mean time Manu sees a look alike of Tanu and her name was Kusum. The relationship grows between the two and in between this Tanu again comes to create confusions in the minds. How it all goes and how it all ends is this segment of Tanu Weds Manu aka Tanu Weds Manu Returns discussing.

If you just look at the story line of the movie, it is quite certainly unrealistic that has too much of coincidences in it. But it is the making and scripting that incorporates terrifically portrayed humor that makes the movie so likeable. May be because the kind of films Kangana did in the recent past, writer Himanshu Sharma offers a lot of space for this women centric narration with strong characters. The treatment of the script will somewhere remind you about Queen. Interestingly the screenplay manages to include all the crucial characters of the first part and thus it becomes more hilarious (almost all the Jimmy Shergil dialogues were too good). Even in depicting the sadness a dilemma of Tanu and Manu, Anand L Rai mixes the humor very elegantly making the same pattern the script followed in the first part look much much better.

It is a Kangana Ranaut show all the way. To be frank, after the first half of the movie you might not even feel that it is a double role. Kangana’s looks and portrayal is so superb that we as an audience will definitely sense the difference Manu could sense after meeting Kusum. Madhavan did his part very nicely. Jimmy Shergill also offers a lot of moments of laughter. Another show stealer was Deepak Dobriyal who was spot on as Pappi. Anand L Rai has roped in a number of smart performing actors in the form of Swara Bhasker, Mohammed Zeeshan Ayyub, Rajesh Sharma etc.

As I said, Anand L Rai has treated the movie in a way that a texture of humor is there throughout its run time. The script from Himanshu Sharma wonderfully creates so many memorable characters. The script also succeeds in containing all the events with full on excitement in this extensive story. Dialogues are funny. The music was really good. The cinematography and edits also kept the standard.

Tanu Weds Manu returns is a fun ride that offers paisa vasool entertainment for the audience with its sensible treatment of the very filmy story. The rating for the movie is 4/5 and a standing ovation for the lady superstar Kangana Ranaut.
