Idhu Namma Aalu

The trailer of the movie had these self mocking elements of Chimbu’s off screen image and what work in the movie Idhu Namma Aalu is those quirky humor parts. With a story that doesn’t really have any stability to its credit, this movie from Pandiraj isn’t that annoying but only worth watching because of the above mentioned self spoofing content.

Siva is this young guy who is working in a software firm in Chennai. His father found a girl for him and Siva meets her. The girl Mylaa however had the knowledge about Siva’s ex lover. The movie basically is this interaction between the two which ultimately culminates in the happy ending wedding scenario after a lot of drama.

The problem basically is that there is no strong plot to this movie’s credit. In the beginning we are like “Oh it is a love triangle”. Then in between somewhere it becomes somewhat like a GVM movie with hero and heroine continuously doing break up and patch up. Towards the end it takes another shape creating a villain for the story. This constant change of conflict makes the movie look weird. And with all those typical Tamil movie exaggerations happening, the conversation humor that works out wonderfully because of the typically comical Soori is the only thing that saves the movie and makes it a bearable one.

Silambarasan portrays the character in his usual style and the guy is physically chubbier and somewhat looks like a younger brother of Anoop Menon. Nayantara was nice as Mylaa and the couple’s on screen chemistry was really good. Andrea Jeremiah was okay as the ex lover Priya who at the end of it all looks like an irrelevant character. Soori does what he always does. Jayaprakash and Uday Mahesh were okay in their characters. Multiple unwanted guest roles are there in the film.

In comparison with the other movies Pandiraj has done, Idhu Namma Aalu looks like a film he had least interest in making. There is no grace in the story telling. In fact he isn’t even trying to create a story. There is an Adah Sharma item number in the movie which comes out of nowhere. The screenplay is constantly making fun of the fakeness in relationships and those sequences that has lead pair along with Soori works positively for the film. Music is okay. Edits were clunky.

I would say Idhu Namma Aalu has certain scenes with less dramatic comical scenes to entertain the audience discretely. The romance part of the movie fails to connect because of the abrupt narrative. It is a bearable one for sure, but not entirely entertaining.
