Ordinary

Debutant director Sugeeth’s ORDINARY is a movie that promises to be extra ordinary but ends up being a typical malayalam drama which in these days can be called as Ordinary. The typical malayalam family movie feel the movie has got through various promotions has helped the movie indeed in making it a crowd puller at the first day.

About the movie, Iravikkuttan Pilla joins KSRTC after his dad dies while he is in service. The rout he gets is the one to Gavi, a rural village in Pathanamthitta. The driver of the bus is Sugu, a somewhat stubborn character. The first half of the movie goes on with some delightful humor with Iravikkuttan Pilla familiarizes with Gavi. The locals in Gavi like the character played by Baburaj, the drama actior and many more adds the one to the first half.

But the second half of the movie is almost an old wine. The so called twist is not enough to ake agony in the minds of the audience and the predictability of the story and Asif Ali’s inability to handle the character in the angry mood makes the movie a disappointing ordinary watch.

In the onscreen side, Kunchaskko Boban was impressive as Iravikkuttan Pilla. For me the best actor in this film is none other than Biju Menon. His language slang was enough to make the audience laugh. Another head of the comedy was Baburaj. Even-though his role was somewhat useless, it helped the movie a lot in handling many scenes. Asif Ali as bhadran was impressive at the beginning, but as the movie went on his performance showed flaws here n there. New comer Shritha Sivadas was ok. Ann Augustine was fine in her small role. Rest of the cast including Lalu Alex, Jishnu, Salim Kumar etc were fine in their roles.

In the making side, the director has some fresh ideas in presenting scenes. But in some portions he follows the conventional pattern. The romance sequences in the first half can be taken as an eg.Screenplay was really good in the first half. But in the second half I felt the script was trying desperately to stretch the last segment of the movie. Dialogs were also of good standard. Some Tintu mon jokes were added smartly among the dialogs. Camera can take a good amount of credit for capturing the gorgeous Gavi beauty. Editing showed some flaws here n there. Vidya Sagar has given some memorable tunes.

Overall “Ordinary” is a movie that starts off as Extra Ordinary and ends up being just above ordinary. At the end of the movie there wasnt much clap for the movie.
My rating for director Sugeeth’s sincere movie ORDINARY is 2.5/5 and a thumbs up..
Not much to claim, Not much to Blame…
