The latest edition of the MIB series is definitely a different one. While the previous packages relied entirely on fun this one goes a little beyond that and adds some emotions in to it. Well, will the audience accept this added flavor? That will decide the success of the movie.
The movie revolves around agent J and K. A prisoner Boris the Animal escapes from the LunarMax prison on moon. He is here to take revenge on Agent K who took his hand and made him a prisoner. Regretting his decision of not killing Boris, Agent K decides to disappear from the history. But however he remains in the memories of agent J. Agent J can not cope with the fact that Agent K got killed in 1969 by Boris (The New History). However understanding the condition of J and the unfortunate alien attack on earth, agent O advices him to get back to time, i.e 1969. The film is all about agent J getting back to time and how he helps K to kill Boris rather than imprisoning him.
Will Smith is always cool as Agent J. The two Ks were nicely portrayed by Tommy Lee Jones and Josh Brolin. Jemaine Clement plays the role of the villain Boris. Michael Stuhlbarg plays an interesting role in the movie as Griffin, an alien who can see the future.
Technically, the VFX of the movie is impressive. Direction is smart. Even though the screenplay is smooth, it couldnt bring out that usual charm of MIB movies. The fun of going back to the past could have been utilized in a better way. I loved the way they inserted moon landing in to the story. The emotional sequences at the end impressed me. With the Griffin character they tried to add some more sentimental approach in the movie.
Overall, MIB is an enjoyable watch. Its another typical MIB one with tint of emotions. My rating for Will Smith starrer MIB 3 is 3 out of 5.
