Ferrari Ki Sawari from the makers of 3 Idiots and Munnabhai series is not a path breaker. But its definitely a quality feel good movie with social value and pleasant entertainment. The makers have presented a new story with fresh situations and spreading the same message of follow your heart.
The movie is about a small family in Mumbai. Rustam a head clerk in RTO office, his son Kayo an emerging cricket talent and his father Mr.Deboo. The whole family runs on Rustom’s small salary. As Kayo’s cricketing life went ahead brightly he happens to get a chance to get an exclusive coaching camp at the Mecca of cricket, Lords. But for this the camp fee is 1.5 Lakhs. Rustom wants to send his charming son to Lords but his fate upsets him. Incidentally Rustom gets the offer of 1.5 Lakhs from a wedding planner. Her demand is to get a ferrari for the wedding of Corporator’s sons marriage. The only one who owns a ferrari in Mumbai is Sachin Tendulkar and Rustom decides to go to Sachin’s house and ask. The film is all about Rustom getting the car and the problems he has to face after that in returning the car, getting the money and sending his son to Lords.
The plot itself is fresh and interesting. With the help of usual melodramas and ethics lessons the makers handles the movie gently. The emotions of the hope less, the sincere love of a father for his son, the value of hard work and many other emotions are nicely presented in this small movie. Just like its positives the main negatives are its cliches at occasions which will remind us other Vidhu Vinod Chopra movies ans some of the hollywood movies of the 90’s.
Performance wise its top quality stuff. Sharman excels as the shy caring father Rustom. Boman Irani dons the role of Deboo quite easily. Newcomer Ritwik has done an excellent job as Kayo. Loved the way he performed in that scene towards the end were he tries to make his upset father happy with positive words. Rest of the cast also delivers good solid entertainment.
Technically, Rajesh Mapuskar’s direction is not an average one. He can definitely handle bigger canvas. The screenplay written by Vidhu Vinod Chopra and Rajesh Mapuskar is a bit uneven and at times a little dragging with too much emotional content. Dialogues of Raju Kirani are heart warming. Nice cinematography and editing. The cricketing sequences were technically perfect. Loved the animation used for the title track.
Overall director Rajesh Mapuskar’s debut movie “Ferrari Ki Sawaari” is a feel good experience. With 3 for the movie and .5 for the good feel and smart attempt, I am giving 3.5 for this hearty film.
