Angry Birds 2

Humor has always been the one key thing that helped the animation films in generating an appeal. Most of the animation films, in the beginning, were written beautifully and the humor had a blended feel. As the market for it grew, filmmakers and studios kind of had a misconception that it was only the humor that contributed to the success of a movie and there were a series of generic animation films that were simply forgettable. Angry Birds 2 is a good example of what could happen if the studios start to demand only comedy in stories. Stuffed with dialogue jokes, this movie is dull and forgettable.

The birds and pigs are still fighting. But one day a deadly ice ball lands near the Piggy Island. They got this information that an eagle named Zeta is trying to attack both Piggy Island and Bird Island and they request the birds for their help and collaboration in moving against Zeta. The movie Angry Birds 2 is simply that attempt of the team comprising of members from both groups to put an end to the impending attack.

It is an animation movie and you do expect a simplistic story. It is not the story that is causing issues here. It is the kind of laziness you sense in being creative and the over-dependence on humor that’s causing the problem. It was almost like they are stretching every scene to be comical by adding more and more desperate quirks. The film is struggling really hard to get things going. The parallel tracks you see in the movie are forcefully linked to the main narrative. The three hatchlings that go to outer space is one scene that clearly shows how desperate the writers are to make the audience laugh.

The voice acting of the movie is pretty much on the fine side. It was actually the voice acting which contributes heavily to making the dialogue humor work and that saves the movie from being a nothing. Jason Sudeikis, Josh Gad, Leslie Jones, Bill Harder, Rachel Bloom, Danny McBride, etc are the major cast members here.

We are no longer looking at animation movies as movies for kids. Movies like Zootopia, Inside Out, Toy Story series, etc have shown that even adults can enjoy such films. Angry Birds 2 looks so lame on a creative level. A kid who is yet to understand the meaning of words may enjoy the cuteness of the characters he or she is seeing on screen. Other than that, Angry Birds 2 offers nothing special to its viewers.
