Ohm Shanthi Oshaana

Ohm Shanthi Oshaana from Jude Anthany Joseph is a film that has some exaggerations and immaturity in its content. But with the humor in the treatment and also with the cunning extraction of the leading lady, this one is a good fun watch.

The story is a woman centric one and the protagonist here is Pooja Mathew the only daughter of a doctor. The focus is on Pooja’s romance. Taking the advice from her aunt, Pooja decides that she will only marry a man whom she really loves and the guy who strikes the goal in her mind was Giri an “all in all ” energetic young man of the place. The gradual transformation of this totally immature romance of a teenage girl to a mature sensible one is what Ohm Shanthi Oshaana all about.

Our leading lady is quirky and the nature of the movie is also the same. Very rarely the movie goes in to those moody zones of melodrama in romance and with humor sprinkled in every sequence its not a stressful watch at any point. Most of the added up characters like the ones played by Vineeth Sreenivasan and Aju Varghese were really hilarious. The film was not treated as a totally exaggerated rom com and because of that certain characteristics of our leading lady is a bit hard to digest. Giving admission to Calicut Medical college to a girl who rarely spends time in front of her books was not a great idea.

Performance wise, this can be called as Nazriya’s “Career Best”- I know she hasn’t got any challenging roles. Her bubbly character and beautiful expressions were the reasons why people love her and the story has used it quite smartly. Nivin Pauly doesn’t have much to emote, but the charm Giri needed was visible in him. Aju did the part of Kanjaani nicely with some funny expressions. Vineeth Sreenivasan and Lal Jose were also quite memorable with their cameos. Ranji Panikkar was okay as the father and seeing another person in a role Lalu Alex always does (cool dad of the boyish girl) was a good feeling.

In terms of making, Jude Anthany Joseph has tried his best to sustain the humor throughout the film and apart from a few places he was successful in doing that. The dialogues are funny and at times over cool. As I said earlier, the script should have given a more sensible backdrops to characters. There wasn’t anything charismatic about Giri to make Pooja wait for that long. The Kaanjani twist towards the last and the cunning Prasad Varkey helps the movie to end on a high saving it from some of its flaws. Edits are good. Cinematography is slightly shaky. Music and BG scores from Shaan Rahman was also good.

Overall Ohm Shanthi Oshaana is a watchable fun film. My rating is 3/5 for this romantic comedy. Special claps for the Anti smoking sequence in the beginning and the interval quoting.
