“Velayudham”, A good commercial Entertainer from Ilayadhalapathi. I am not saying its great film n all. Its a typical Vijay film with dance, fun, action and sentimense. Velayudham also joins the league of those Tamil films which are commercial with some amount of social commitment. Just like Anniyan, Indian and Kanthasamy, Velayudham alias Vel played by Vijay is not a superhero. The movie is not a copy of “Assassin Creed”. Nothing Sci-Fi is there in the movie. Even if you say they copied the costume, you might rethink about it after watching the movie.
The movie is about VEL alias VELAYUDHAM played by Vijay. Through a few incidents or I should say Accidents, an ordinary man Like Vel was misunderstood by the people as a Superhero VELAYUDHAM who fights against corruption, violence, terrorism etc. The building up of Vel as the Super Hero VELAYUDHAM was somewhat convincing.
Performance wise, Vijay has delivered a good on screen show. As the funny and Simple Vel, as a loving Brother and a furious Action Hero. His comedy, action and dance was also good. I really loved that scene were he cries saying “Kaveri.. Kaveri..”. That scene showed the audience the ACTOR inside the STAR Vijay. Hansika is there only for GLAMOR. Genelia’s character at least has something to do with the story. Saranya Mohan as the bubbly sister was also nice to watch. Sandhanam gives some really funny moments for us to laugh.The Villains also delivered a descent performance.
Technically story, screenplay and direction of M.Raja is just about convincing. Editing is good. Camera work is okey. “Molachu Moonu..” song picturization was good. VFX was average. But not as bad as “7am Arivu”. They could have attempted something fresh in the action choreography. Ofcoz there are scenes which are totally out of Logic. Stopping the train, Slicing the stunt man etc.
Who cares about all those stuff? Its a Vijay movie after all.
Compared to the other two Deepavali releases, Velayutham is the better one. Because it delivered the entertainment it promised.
Keep your LOGICS at home and go for this movie.
